Sheffield, Illinois is a quiet town located in Bureau County on Routes 6 and 34 and just off of Interstate 80, exit 45.

 

Interesting facts:

 

· It is named after Joseph Sheffield, one of the founding fathers and an engineer on the Chicago and Rock Island Railroad.

 

· St. Peter's Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church is one of the oldest Danish Lutheran Churches in the United States, it was established Oct 24, 1869, it is available for weddings.

 

· Nearby is the Hennepin Canal Parkway Visitor's Center and Museum.

 

· Other points of interest are MautinoState Park, the Witness Tree, and McCune's Sand Prairie.

 

The Village of Sheffield was Established in 1852 and currently has a population of 946 with 418 households.

 

The school system is Bureau Valley District Unit 340.
